Digital transformation creates significant opportunities for remote working. The purpose of this paper is to explore this ‘work-from-anywhere’ approach that will require a virtual leadership culture, the need for self-discipline, and greater individual autonomy, cloud-based operations, technological parity, and clear protocols and systems.
This paper explores key remote work terms as well as the driving forces, advantages, and disadvantages of remote work from the perspective of workers and employers. Reference is made to designing for remote work, with the hybrid remote option being explored in particular.
Moreover, practical steps to improve remote working productivity – specifically culture, communication, meetings, and collaboration tools – are investigated.
