Henley Business School Africa has teamed up with Beijing Jiaotong University in China to bring two seminal annual research conferences to Cape Town this July.
The 11th International Conference on Industrial Economics System and Industrial Security Engineering (IEIS 2024) and the 14th International Conference on Logistics, Informatics and Service Sciences (LISS 2024) will both be held from 26 to 29 July 2024 at Henley’s Cape Town campus in Woodstock.
This is the first time that these prime international forums, which have been hosted all over the world, including in Canada, Spain, Australia, and the US, will take place in Africa.
According to Henley dean and director Jon Foster-Pedley, this is a big deal for African research and academia. ‘For the first time, leading conferences like IESI and LISS are on our doorstep, offering unparalleled access to cutting-edge research and fostering collaboration with international peers. Henley Business School is proud to be associated with this venture.’
Hosted by IEEE SMC Technical Committee on Logistics, Informatics and Industrial Security Systems at Beijing Jiaotong University, in cooperation with Henley Africa, the Informatics Research Centre at the University of Reading in the UK, and Beijing Information Science and Technology University in China, these two conferences are a significant fixture on the research calendar for many researchers. They offer academics in the field an opportunity to exchange insights on the latest advances and co-create solutions to global challenges.
Hosting these prestigious conferences in Africa sends a powerful message, says Professor Kecheng Liu, Honourary Director of the Informatics Research Centre at the University of Reading. ‘It recognises the burgeoning research talent on the continent and provides a platform for African researchers to showcase their expertise on a global stage. The focused discussions and knowledge exchange will likely benefit African advancements in these crucial areas.’
IEIS2024 aims to address issues in socioeconomic development and economic security. The conference theme is “Industrial structure adjustment, industrial and national economic security in a changing world”.
LISS 2024 is themed around “AI and data-driven technical and management innovation in logistics, informatics and services”. It will explore topics including AI in logistics and the supply chains and services sciences, health informatics and bioinformatics, intelligent transportation, and neural networks and their applications.
Interested parties are invited to submit completed research papers as well as work-in-progress reports to participate in the conferences. Authors are required to certify that their papers are original and not considered for publication elsewhere.
The deadline for submitting articles and papers is 30 April 2024, with final papers required by 15 June 2024. Submissions for a special session need to be in by April 20, 2024.
