Going for growth

For ADMP graduate Sunita Ramcharan, one of the unintended benefits of studying at Henley Business School was the opportunity to prioritise her own sense of wellbeing.
What surprised me most about my studies at Henley Business School was not only the academic content of the courses, but also the personal revelations I experienced along the way. The most transformative of these lessons was coming to understand who I am, why I think and act the way I do, and how I can live a more fulfilling life.
I have always felt that I was not good enough. Thanks to the personal mastery component of the programme I now understand that I am enough! As a result, I am continuing to work on improving my self-confidence and trying to avoid hiding in the background, which has always been my default position. Today, I am more self-aware and intentional than I was before my studies. I have grown more conscious of myself and the impact I have on those around me, and – most importantly – I have learned to prioritise my own wellbeing. The Advanced Diploma in Management Practice (ADMP) made me realise the importance of seeking professional counsel when it became clear that I needed support managing an unresolved trauma that I had carried with me for more than a decade. This revelation was both empowering and necessary and marked the beginning of a proactive approach towards healing for me.
My Henley Business School journey didn’t start with the ADMP. It began in 2021 when I completed the Higher Certificate in Management Practice (HCMP). From the moment I registered for the first time I knew that I wanted to work my way up the ladder of learning. My journey at Henley has been one of growth, both professionally and personally. By embracing every challenge that presented itself, I have been able to apply the invaluable insights gained through the ADMP course to elevate my work and enrich my personal life.
Discovering the power of systems thinking was an eye-opener. I learned how valuable it is to invest time in thorough research, and to approach problems with a strategic, analytical mindset. Instead of rushing to find solutions, I have come to appreciate the importance of pausing, digging deeper, and considering all the variables before making decisions. This approach has helped me tackle challenges more effectively, both at work and in my personal life.
Setting clear boundaries has always been a challenge for me. The ADMP helped me realise this, and as a result, I am deliberately working on establishing boundaries that minimise inconvenience for me and that ensure a healthier balance between meeting expectations and preserving my own sense of wellbeing. This has been a transformative process that allows me to navigate interactions with greater confidence and intentionality.
I have developed a genuine appreciation for adult learning along the way. My study experience wasn’t just about absorbing information from textbooks; it was about applying knowledge in practical, meaningful ways. Integrating these lessons into real-world situations has made my learning journey incredibly rewarding.
The quick Q&A
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like creative hobbies such as painting and crafts. I also enjoy reading a good book and also colouring in. I have many adult colouring books with mandala shapes that keep me occupied.
What is your passion in business or in life?
I want to get out of corporate and work for myself, either by consulting or opening a business to support my responsibilities and lifestyle.
What advice would you give your 20-year-old self?
Do not be afraid of taking chances. Start side hustles and build an empire. You must upskill yourself to work, and while working, build your network and set yourself up for self-employment.
What is the most meaningful book you have read?
Inner Engineering – A Yogi’s Guide to Joy by Sadhguru, founder of the Isha Foundation in India, had a tremendously positive effect on me. The book is about spiritual evolution, and it teaches us that while we may not be able to control what happens to us, we are in full control of how we react to situations, and that spiritual evolution can happen consciously.
